These books teach a way of living with vigour and happiness throughout the last third of life. Each one covers different fields having its own answers to specific questions in a practical sense.
Book 1 defines and explains the aging process in the world of today. It concentrates on your practical evaluation of your part of it. We also evaluate in detail how the body and mind can manage to weather the stresses of changes to stay well in harmony with our own nature .
Book 2 is a study of body systems and their nutrition with emphasis on evaluating your own present health. It encourges you to select one of the Agewell Plans to follow for health, happiness and longevity.
Alzheimers disease is explained with its probable causes, it's prevention and the strategies to halt present damage. Book 3 is included in book 2.
The second part of book 2 starts with a comprehensive overview of aging followed by the practical explanation of a lifestyle as it relates to your choices for the future.
The Agewell Cookbook (book three) describes feasts of delicious foods that, though easy to prepare, will best nourish the body, the mind and the spiritual essence of our age.

Book 2. Agewell Cookbook
By incorporating the guidelines discussed in the rest of the book I have gathered some really delicious, easy-to-make recipes of nutrient-dense foods to help you to age well, naturally.
In other words, you can follow the Agewell plan of your choice in a practical sense by using the recipes in this Cookbook. You can also now find or make recipes of your own that fit in with what you have learnt about choosing foods containing the substances that enhance the balance of your brain enzymes and neurotransmitters as well as your general health.
The recipes in the Agewell Cookbook are examples of commonly enjoyed, easily made, delicious and nourishing foods that can give you all the nutriments your brain needs, so long as a good variety of them are used in meals and snacks week by week. I have grouped them in headings that follow the way you would need them in the daily menu.
Choose fruit and vegetables in season if possible. Choose sound fresh vegetables and fruit and wash everything carefully before cooking and before eating raw. Use your own discretion about peeling vegetables. If they are grown in a polluted area, or with artificial pesticides, or sold from a dusty and dirty market, then peeling is preferable, even though a little nutriment lying just below the skin may be lost, as with root vegetables.
Use acetic acid or ordinary white vinegar, one dessertspoon to the pint (3 cups) of tap water for the last rinse of your prepared vegetables, since this is a simple antiseptci that can dry off easily.
Nuts should be fresh and raw, not last year's, rancid or fungus-marked. Roast or grind them yourself then, if you prefer them that way. Usually health food shops have a good supply of whole grain flours of different grains, and beans, roots and seeds.
For people with dentures, cut everything small and cook slowly and well.
Use food promptly and don't keep leftovers more than two days even in the refrigerator.
Remember we don't want indigestion or gastroenteritis or other easily preventable illnesses. Cooking for 25 minutes at 180 degrees kills most germs, viruses and parasites.

AGE WITHOUT ALZHEIMERS Dr Ruth Cilento
Review by Derek Duparcq, B.Ac.CPH.
This could be the most important book you will ever read. It is much more than a treatise on Alzheimer's Disease (AD). This collection of three books is a very complete and lucidly written work on the subject of ageing gracefully and happily. It is about healthy longevity for us all.
Just to mention the word Alzheimers may conjure up feelings of intense fear in some of us. If you are in your sixth or seventh decade of life and have ever hod any involvement with loved ones suffering from this disorder, and then you begin tu notice occasional lapses of memory in yourself, you may find yourself asking, "am I getting Alzheimers?" The fear of helplessness and of not being able to care for oneself is one of the most powerful fears we can have. These books answer many of your questions such as:
- What actually is Alzheimer's disease and what are the symptoms?
- Why do we get it and how is it diagnosed?
- Can it be treated or prevented from developing?
- What can I do to reduce the risk of developing this disorder?
The books answer these questions, as well as a host of other questions regarding healthy ageing, very clearly and completely and in a very friendly way.
About the Author
An understanding of where Or Ruth Cilento is coming from will help you appreciate this work. She comes from a very talented and respected Australian family. Her parents were medical pioneers. Her father (Sir Raphael Cilento) was knighted for his work in establishing a health program for the South Pacific in .the 1920's. Her mothar, Lady Cilento, wrote an extremely successful medical column in the Courier Maii for over 50 years. She had a huge following and helped educate many in the beliefs of nutrition and nutritional supplements.
After 22 years in general practice with her husband Westall Smout, Ruth herself studied child psychology and worked for many years in government psychiatric establishments. She moved to the country during 1976-1992 to establish a pioneer ecofriendly Angora goat stud and for 15 years was director of the Psychiatric Outpatient department of a country hospital. During this time she also studied Orthomolecular Nutrition and Complementary Medicine and since has done enormous work with cancer patients. In 1994 Dr Ruth suffered from burnout after many years of overwork. This caused her to develop Chronic Fatigue Syndrome of a type that in many respects mimicked AD because of the effects of the virus on the brain. This changed her life, and although severely debilitated she determined to battle on and use her knowledge and skills together with the support of her colleagues to beat these problems and devise a series of programs that can help all of us with many of the problems of ageing. As she improved, she intensified her research and put the emphasis on the problems of ageing, but what she has written is relevant for all times.
I strongly recommend this book to everyone. I have known Ruth Cilento for a long time and know that it has been written for the right reasons to inform all thinking people.
